According the first week sales of his 11th project, let’s say a big yes. More than 10K sales the first week. Gosh. But beware, the numbers don’t reflect the talent. Kekra had understood it pretty well : «Fuck le dream, fuck le stream, j’suis là pour faire la banque». No friends. And you can hear it. KEKRA is a fuckin’ dark project with its 17 murky tracks. The tracklist itself gives a glimpse of this feeling of loneliness and authenticity. And listening to the sounds, we’ve got same lemonade. Different sounds, coherent record and this presence of the autotune, hooked to the universe of Kekra. Successions of punchlines that claim the solitude of Kekra in the rap game. Too easy for him, nobody’s needed here. To the point of splitting himself in the backing vocals that support a crazy work on the prods. His alternation between the kicking and the melo’ autotuned remains serious in head, and poses different atmospheres within the same piece. Listen to Phénomène. Then the rest of the record. This quasi-schizo egotrip comes out thick, lucid lit with a perfect black light and that’s why we validate hard. Rich in hard bop tradi, experimenting the electro sonorities. Second album, Léon Phal does not restrain himself any more and puts a definitive foot in the world of jazz.
