global_colors_info= »{} »] Kamilya, Sarah te décrit comme comme sa sœur de musique, l’expression est assez jolie.Kamilya Joubran : Notre affinité remonte à plus que 20 ans maintenant, à 1998. Je jouais avec Sabreen, un groupe palestinien basé à Jérusalem. On préparait un album et Said Mourad, le fondateur et compositeur, avait envie d’un petit orchestre. Quelqu’un me passe le numéro de Sarah qui a tout de suite accepté sans demander d’abord de quoi il s’agissait. Ça a été une vraie rencontre. Ce n’est pas seulement devenu une forme de sororité et il y a beaucoup plus de choses en jeu entre nous, aujourd’hui. Il y a cette confiance, cette curiosité de l’une envers l’autre. Pourquoi créé-t-elle cette musique ? Comment ? Quelle est  la pensée derrière la musique ? On ne vient pas de la même histoire musicale, mais on a un présent, un intellect, une recherche qu’on partage, et ceci nous amène à écrire de la musique autrement. Ce serait quoi ce « autrement » entre vous deux ? KJ : Une musique qui nous appartient, pas seulement une fusion de choses simples. C’est pourtant un piège à éviter, quand on imagine la réunion d’une musicienne occidentale et musicienne proche-orientale. KJ : Tout à fait. Et c’est pour ça que ça prend du temps.Sarah Murcia : L’autre jour, Kamilya a dit : « ce qui nous rapproche aussi, c’est qu’on aime bien se prendre le chou. » On se prend la tête. Dans la musique, et jamais entre nous. (Elle rit) On aime bien ça, avoir un os à ronger, un truc à démêler. La complexité, c’est une façon pour nous de démêler ensemble de petites énigmes et puis d’en faire de la musique, autour de la polyrythmie et des modalités un peu spéciales.KJ : Tout de suite, ça m’a intéressée. Moi, je viens de la pop, de l’école de musique classique du Proche-Orient. Je me jette dans cette aventure d’une chanson palestinienne « moderne », quand je rencontre Sarah, j’avais envie de comprendre comment créer cette musique. Ça nous a pris du temps d’apprendre les gammes à transposition limitée, la part des rythmiques, comment marche la ligne horizontale de l’écriture arabe. Sarah a insisté pour apprendre tout cela et on a commencé à parler de micro-tonalité, à trouver des croisements entre pensée mélodique et pensée harmonique. Les Chardons de la Lune, morceau qui ouvre le set et la soirée à la Dynamo, pose le décor. Jazz ? oui, sans doute. Du jazz, si le mot tient encore la route par la multitudes d’influences dont on l’abreuve. Du jazz qui sort des mixtapes. Ça nous ramènera aucun Joe, ni Dassin, ni Henderson, mais le propos est loin d’être là. Le groupe parrainé par Le Petit Faucheux joue un jazz de connexions. Celle de la vapor pop avec la syncope, celle du free avec le pastel, encore un beau bordel dû à l’Internet générationel, sans doute. Le quarteron tourangeau l’a non seulement compris mais le pratique à sa sauce. Légère, velouté à la langue et dense au palais. Soit, donc, du climat à climax. On notera ici qu’il faut fracturer la surface pour trouver un peu de cool respiratoire, on remarquera ici que les solos pastellisent. Certes. Mais qui n’aura jamais maté les vitrines des centres-ville d’aujourd’hui aura loupé un truc. Cette musique est une musique de son temps. Pas certain d’affirmer ici que la jeunesse a toujours raison, mais sous la surface pleine, aimable et très (trop ?) limpide du répertoire du groupe, s’organise des choses plus complexes, empruntant aux cultures électro et hip-hop. Mention parfaitement subjective à la fraction basse/batterie, solide et éloquente, tenue par Jasmine Lee et Benjamin François. La belle idée qui prévaut, c’est que MARSAVRIL ne rejoue une énième version frenchy du groove-electro londonien. Y compris dans le dernier morceau joué, perlé de collages McCraveniens. En bref, ce quartet est à ranger dans la catégorie des bands qui racontent sans se la raconter. Pour le reste, comme pour ce Chameau Bleu malin, donc forcément un peu branleur et classe, c’est joué avec l’affirmation de soi, digéré comme peut l’être un printemps, un soir de décembre. Après les climats et les atmosphères, les eaux de l’improvisation libertaire. NUBU aka Nahash Urban Brass Unit entre en scène. De l’unitaire qui brasse et Le Galpon tournusien, en guise de parrain, pas surprenant. Le quintet est moins lancé dans la modernisation de ce qui a vécu que dans une forme de revisitation sincère et cérébrale de ce qui est connu. NUBU dérange sans déménager, NUBU combine et s’élève sur ce promontoire d’équations. Victor Auffray, Thibaut Du Cheyron, Elisabeth Coxall, Marion Ruault et Guillaume Lys tentent de mettre en musique, in extenso, ce qu’on pige de soi, de ses racines et du lien aux autres. C’est parfois tendu mais c’est surtout lettré, c’est joli, hanté par mille références et jamais trop rétif face à l’héritage comme pour ce Foissiat In The Dark, ode sensible, ou ce Potiron éclairé au trombone comme les ruelles borgnes l’ont été au gaz, en leur temps. Avec une lueur fragile, mais solitaire et donc forcément amicale. On y entend de l’alto et du tuba. Dans un orchestre classique, ce sont des instruments souvent laissés pour compte. Est-ce que votre duo, devient alors un peu la revanche des plus forts ?(Elle rit) Avec Maëlle, on s’est rencontrées il y a trois ans, on a vite accroché. On a des parcours assez similaires, une éducation classique qui a viré vers le contemporain, la musique improvisée et le jazz. Du coup, je ne me considère pas vraiment comme jazzwoman. On est très attachées à ce mélange des genres. Effectivement, le tuba et l’alto, dans l’orchestre, c’est souvent une sorte de « liant » pour le reste des pupitres, surtout le tuba. Normalement, en classique, on n’est pas censé l’entendre, mais plutôt le remarquer lorsqu’il n’est pas là. Avec Maëlle, on a donc ce détachement face à la tradition purement classique, on a cet attachement à mélanger l’impro et le répertoire. C’est donc une rencontre de personnalités et de timbres, qui se mélangent très bien, parce qu’ils sont assez chauds, dans un registre large, ni trop grave, ni trop aigu. Le tuba, c’est ton premier instrument ?Depuis l’âge de deux ans, je voulais faire de la trompette. J’en avais vue une dans une fanfare dans la rue et j’ai tanné ma mère mais j’étais trop petite. Vers 5 ans, j’ai commencé la guitare classique. À 7 ans, une fois que mes dents de laits étaient tombées et que les définitives avaient poussé, j’ai commencé le tuba parce que ma mère ne pouvait pas m’amener au cours de trompette, les seuls créneaux possibles, c’était soit ça, soit le cor. Aujourd’hui, je suis contente parce que je pense que j’aurais été insupportable avec une trompette entre les mains. Qu’est ce que tu écoutais, petite, à la maison ?Ma mère est prof de danse classique, donc beaucoup de musiques de ballets, forcément. Mais, très tôt, elle m’a donné une radio pour pouvoir écouter ce que je voulais : beaucoup de musiques urbaines, françaises ou américaines, R’n’B, soul, latino pop, et beaucoup d’afrobeat aussi. Evidemment, j’écoute les oeuvres que je dois travailler. Parfois j’ai de petites hyper-fixations, genre que du Stockhausen pendant un mois. Mais, c’est vrai que j’aime beaucoup ces musiques confortfood pour le cerveau. Quand tu joues, as-tu l’impression d’être influencée par tes écoutes de tous les jours ?Pour l’instant, c’est encore assez cloisonné, entre ce que j’aime écouter et ce que j’aime faire. C’est pas du tout la même chose. Pour le coup j’ai un bagage assez varié à force d’expérimenter à gauche et à droite, mais entre ce que j’écoute et ce que je joue, c’est encore en chantier. Il y a de plus en plus d’instruments assez éloignés du strict instrumentarium jazz, présents notamment via une nouvelle génération de musiciennes.La question des femmes est effectivement de plus en plus présente auprès de notre génération. Après, pour la représentation du tuba, on a quand même quelques illustres sur la scène française. Michel Godard qui vient jouer souvent ici, ou François Thuillier avec qui j’ai étudié. Que ce soit classique ou jazz, l’école du tuba est quand même assez développée. Au-delà de l’instrumentarium et des proportions de genres, il y a surtout une ouverture, un décloisonnement. De plus en plus de projets sont mixtes. Ça nous permet de naviguer entre les scènes. Je reviens un peu sur cette question de nouvelle génération. Tu es une musicienne plutôt connectée sur les réseaux sociaux. Quel est ton rapport à ces outils ?
C’est vrai et j’ai grandi avec. À un moment, il y a eu un switch. Je m’y suis moins intéressée pour le « fun », que comme plateforme de communication. J’ai pas encore de site internet, ni de newsletter, donc je fais des stories sur instagram, et des posts, autant que je peux. Pas vraiment comme support d’actualité, plutôt comme portfolio. Si quelqu’un cherche ce que je fais, il y a un peu un catalogue de mes dernières expériences et je trouve ça assez vivant, assez parlant. on peut aussi mettre des photos un peu marrante. Est ce que tu y vois une plus-value ?Ça me parle plus qu’un site internet un peu édulcoré, un peu lisse. Pour moi c’est un peu plus fun, à faire et à entretenir. Certaines personnes — dont la génération importe peu d’ailleurs — ne sont pas du tout réceptives, et se disent que c’est de la pub, que c’est trop superficiel. Ensuite, on aime ou non le style que j’utilise. Ça me permet une plus grande liberté, d’exprimer davantage

Soit Sonny Troupé et Sélène Saint-Aimé, puis la piano de Xavier Belin pour parfaire ce quintet. Ingénieuse croisée d’une époque où le jazz était aux mains de petits maîtres aventureux (par exemple, Freddy Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Andrew Hill) et de l’actualité d’une tradition en mutation constante. La voie empruntée est celle des ancêtres, de la legacy US et d’une Caraïbes démultipliée. Dans cette danse de liberté, ce quintet-là ne plaisante pas quand il annonce mélanger les cultures. Et quand dans tout cela passe Aznavour avec sa Bohème sous le bras, le moment efface pour mille années le moindre biopic frelaté.Le groupe mené par la contrebassiste est très tôt sur ses rails, à vive allure dans sa longue ascension inaltérable, saillie ici ou là par le piano et les soufflants-soufflets. Au-dessus de leur liberté d’intervention, de la précision des placements de chacun, il y a la basse, terrestre en esprit, volatile pour tutoyer la voix qui s’y attache. Surdimensionnée, sans doute un effet de la récente résidence de Sélène Saint-Aimé à la Villa Albertine. Ce quintet est grand, ce quintet sonne beau.
