One does not badine with the jazz, would blow once again some caciques of the French jazz editorial. In 2 titles, the NCY Milky Band takes everybody head on. The classics and the caciques. Magic Polo first and with a care of the climate to make blind a Nicolas Hulot. Burn’IN then, eponymous example of poppy banter with a glossy production like an Aston Martin’s grille on the main boulevards. Finally settled in its final format, NCY remixes its own influences to deliver its definition of jazz in 2021. Inevitably multiple, creole post-electro, fun and furiously hot on the edges. Burn’ IN fuckin’ strikes among the hexagonal prods of the moment. It plays for laughs with its navel but it knows how to look seriously beyond the Atlantic, too. Never mind for those who would rather link this quartet to London, NCY gazes at America. Burn’IN is full of synth cowboys (Young Fiasco), long open roads (Gotham) and sunsets for worried lovers (Plus Profond). Matured in the BMM Records cellars, this music certainly doesn’t renew anything, but it certainly affirms a damn terrible thing. What we still call a little jazz remains a fucking playground for consenting adults. Without any dirty idolatry, without any fear of easy pleasure. The Choc of this May.

Soyons simple. La petite claque du mois de mai.
