Dans son archéologie perso du jazz puis dans laretranscription in vivo de ses notes, Kyle Eastwood, biberonné à la syncope fifties par son daron, se fabrique son propre âge d’or. Sans doute les Jazz Messengers sont-ils en point de mire. Les codes sont dans les clous, le drive vient pousser ce qu’il convient de pousser et vient agir sur les nuques. Les têtes bougent. Taxi Driver et un Bullitt, piloté au volant d’un SUV Picasso. Pas ouf mais idéal véhicule pour aller rendre une très jolie visite aux Moulins de mon cœur de Michel Legrand. Camille Bertault l’allume sans attendre, d’une voix forgée seventies, grave, languide et astucieusement détimbrée, façon bossa funk à la française. Les amitiés transatlantiques se redressent, le set se formate CinémaScope. À l’Américaine ? À la papa, dirait-on si la langue d’ici ne péjorait pas éhontément l’expression. Ce jazz-là est certainement tombé du regard amoureux de Daddy Clint, dans l’oreille de junior. Sans brute, ni truand. C’est donc un jazz qui trace l’idée de nation, de communauté de jeu. Et la règle en est évidente. Plaisir. Un jazz à l’appel clair, clair de lecture et de plaisir. Offrir, recevoir, même combat.
