1 intro, 3 paintings. Nothing too much here. A triple title, too, Space, Time and Mirror. Title and name of the group of ensemble gathered by Christophe Girard for this record. Recorded, that’s important, live at the Espace des Arts of Chalon-sur-Saône. Live takes that bring together the 6 musicians in the narration, as always pour Christophe Girard’s works : necessarily precise, necessarily full of saving obsessions. Space, Time and Mirror thus gets the large orchestral ensembles aspects. The dynamic are wide, the palette of colors is dedicated to each instrumentalist, a very personal mention to the euphonic euphonium of Anthony Caillet on Tableau 2. Not that the rest of the work does not deserve it, well no, but this color, well-known by Girard-the-composer, carries the ear further and further. In a fairground formalism, terribly precious on this disc, supported by the Arrosoir, a house of finds and research across. And this joyful, cunning and generous formalism pushes the combo gathered by Girard-the-accordionist, in vast tales. Tales where Meredith Monk, the Stravinsky of the Soldier’s History, the art of the Reduced Big Band and a masterful mess of inventions where the accordion, faithful to its helping ostinato, are playing together. Band record, Claude Tchamitchian, Elodie Pasquier, François Merville and Amaryllis Billet complete the crew, Space, Time and Mirror does not choose and explores these 3 ways, synchro, voluble and always relevant.
1 intro, 3 tableaux. Rien de trop. Un triple titre, aussi, Space, Time and Mirror. Titre et nom de la combine d’ensemble assemblé par Christophe Girard pour ce disque. Disque, idée importante, enregistré live à l’Espace des Arts de Chalon-sur-Saône. Live, prise directe sur les 6 musiciens joints dans la narration, forcément précise, forcément pleine d’obsessions salvatrices, on est chez Christophe Girard. Space, Time and Mirror a d’emblée l’allure des grands ensembles orchestraux. La dynamique est large, la palette de couleur est dédiée à chaque instrumentiste, mention tout à fait personnelle à l’euphonique euphonium d’Anthony Caillet sur Tableau 2. Non que le reste démérite, bien au contraire, mais que cette couleur, connue de Girard, le compositeur, porte l’oreille toujours plus loin. Dans un formalisme forain, terriblement précieux sur ce disque, épaulé par l’Arrosoir, maisonnée de trouvailles et de recherches en travers. Et ce formalisme joyeux, matois, rusé et généreux pousse le combo réuni par Girard, l’accordéoniste, dans de vastes récits. S’y ébroueraient Meredith Monk, le Stravinski de l’Histoire du Soldat, l’art du Big Band Réduit et une pagaille magistrale d’inventions où l’accordéon, fidèles à ses ostinato secoureurs, trace son espace mobile. Disque de bande, Claude Tchamitchian, Elodie Pasquier, François Merville et Amaryllis Billet complètent le crew, Space, Time and Mirror ne choisit pas et explore ces 3 voies, synchro, volubile et toujours juste.
