Avec Von Pourquery, le jeu est le maître mot. Le jeu des trois musiciens, d’abord. Trois compagnons de route depuis plus de 20 ans : Thomas de Pourquery (chant, clavier, saxophone), Sylvain Daniel (basse, chant), et David Atkin (batterie, électronique, chant). Maitrise et technique qui sautent aux yeux et aux oreilles. Mention personnelle pour Sylvain Daniel qui réussit à nous faire croire, en bon (jazz) bass-tare, que sa basse est une guitare. Puis il y a la voix de Pourquery, velouté grave et profond d’un Leonard Cohen, aigus dignes des envolées vocales d’un Prince, sauts d’octaves en un claquement de doigt. Impressionnant.
Le jeu dans lequel ils plongent longuement le public, ensuite. Entre un colin-maillard musical et le blind test du vendredi soir. Les références tombent par paquets de 100 : bossa nova, rock western, funk froid new yorkais des années 80, hard rock, opéra rock, trip hop, pop FM des années 80, Bashung, rock prog’, groove californien. Techno froide et entêtante en bonus. Un kaléidoscope géant de tout ce qui peut se classer dans le tiroir ‘musique pop’. De Pourquery y ajoute son épaisseur, une inventivité folle et un peu de mode aussi :  sarouel-bottines-pull-à-capuche-gueule-de-panthère sur scène, qui d’autre ? Von Pourquery est une nouvelle aire de jeu d’un musicien surdoué et prolifique. Un type qui aime, intègre et pige tous les styles de musique sans discrimination de style ou de classe. Un beau joueur, en somme.
