Le jazz, c’est une musique originaire du sud des États-Unis et c’est souvent associée aux vieux et aux bobos. Ok, j’ai lancé quelques playlists Spotify. La playlist titrée « Jazz Classique 🎷 » a eu ma préférence. L’icône, c’est un saxophone. On s’en fiche un peu mais c’est rassurant. On est bien dans une playlist jazz. Elle déroule de nombreux standards que j’avais, pour la plupart d’entre eux, déjà entendus dans des films.Cette playlist commence doucement. C’est What A Wonderful World de Louis Armstrong, morceau très populaire à sa sortie. Perso, je l’ai découvert dans le film Good Morning, Vietnam. Calme. Le player enchaîne avec Feeling Good de Nina Simone. Un morceau avec un rythme lent. Début a cappella puis enfin des cuivres très présents. Cool. Ensuite arrive un peu de blues. C’est Naima de John Coltrane, la mélodie lente et aérée donne une musique détente. Très lent. La playlist part ensuite sur I Got A Woman de Ray Charles, union du gospel et du blues, un titre qui a été repris par Elvis, par les Beatles et déjà cité dans Algo-Rythme. Vieux mais cool, là encore. Sing Sing Sing de Benny Goodman. Années 30. Un standard incontournable qu’on a tous déjà entendu au moins une fois (lire Jazz Roulette). Souviens-toi, c’est dans Harry Potter et le prisonnier d’Azkaban, pendant le cours de défense contre les forces du mal de Remus Lupin. Film en noir et blanc, classe et entrainant. Revient Louis Armstrong avec La Vie En Rose, un incontournable classique de la chanson française repris par un incontournable du jazz. Cliché français. Les « Jazz Classique » réinvitent Ray Charles avec son Hit The Road Jack, c’est dynamique et entrainant, ça aussi, et ça aussi, on l’a forcément déjà entendue. Très connu mais très cool.Je vais pas faire quoi avec 4 mots mais une chose est claire : le jazz ce n’est pas si mal et on connait forcément un morceau ou deux. Les vieux et les bobos ont peut-être un peu de goût. La playlist « Jazz Classique 🎷 » (sérieux, cette icône) affiche encore beaucoup de titres mais on peut juste écouter les 10 premiers. On retrouve très souvent ce style au cinéma pour des scènes qui se déroulent dans le passé. On se prend donc un immense sentiment de nostalgie en les écoutant. Faut y aller mollo. It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s world. Classique, efficace. Dansant, réaliste et triste en même temps, c’est possible ? Apparemment oui. Trompette, saxo, guitare et batterie accompagnent parfaitement James Brown dans son récit. Le rythme s’accélère. Ray Charles et ses histoires de femmes. I Got A Woman, entraînant. Ça donne envie de swinguer. Remasterisé par Kanye West et Jamie Foxx dans Gold Digger. Comme quoi, le jazz est partout une source d’inspi’. Je reste avec mon cher Raymond, What’d I Say, Pt. 1 & 2 qui donne envie de danser le rock’n roll à la Elvis Presley — lui-même d’ailleurs reprendra ce titre. Et en même temps que Ray Charles met un pied dans le rock, il invente la soul avant que James Brown ou Aretha Franklin approfondissent le sujet. Un son qui pourrait se trouver dans un Tarantino non ? Les femmes aussi sont douées. Nancy Sinatra raconte une histoire douce et tragique, Bang Bang, moins rapide pour le coup mais tout aussi cool. Un son dansant qui fait aussi pas mal penser au Burlesque et te donne envie d’aller faire un tour à la Nouvelle-Orléans. I Put a Spell on You ! Un classique repris plus d’une fois, ici par Nina Simone nettement différent de l’original de Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Cette voix puissante qui t’hypnotise. Le genre de son qui peut te faire perdre la raison et le contrôle comme Christian Grey. Autre classique. De Ray Charles cette fois-ci, Hit the Road Jack. Très rythmé et paroles faciles à retenir, ça te reste dans la tête toute la journée. Une chanson de rupture, énervée, qui te fait te sentir super bien. Next, un géant de la musique américaine, Frank Sinatra avec sa reprise de Cheek to Cheek.
